Modern Languages and Cultural Studies offers graduate degree programs that foster interdisciplinary research and transcultural collaboration.

Our MA (course- and thesis-based) and PhD programs are divided into four specializations:

  • Applied Linguistics
  • Media and Cultural Studies
  • Translation Studies
  • Transnational and Comparative Literatures

Student and faculty research is diverse, broad, and includes an array of national, cultural, and linguistic areas. Built into each program are individually tailored professional development modules (academic, creative, non-academic) resulting in a unique portfolio. Our programs have a robust structure to encourage accelerated time to degree. The department offers extensive mentoring throughout the course of study, including support for the development of grant applications, academic writing, and skills in research and teaching. Competitive funding packages are available.
