About Programme

Linguistics is a research area, which explores scientific solutions to language and communication questions, which arise in society, new media, institutions, politics, and economics.

  • Type: On campus
  • Start: October
  • Language: English, German

  • Duration: 24 months
  • Fee national: $1,266
  • Fee international: $1,266

Accordingly, the superior aim of the master programme “Applied Linguistics” is to enable students to identify and analyse these questions and to convey theoretically and methodologically established practice-oriented solutions. Our Master of Arts (M.A.) degree conveys basic knowledge of linguistic theories, empiric, and experimental methods, as well as suitable approaches for analysis. It is also established to enhance your skills in communication, constructive criticism, and team-building. These goals enable students to professionally discuss theoretical and methodological positions, to argue for their own positions, and to then adequately work on their questions.

During their studies at the University of Bonn, students will obtain qualifications, which are not only relevant for the international job market, but which are also suitable for a variety of professional occupations. Due to the strong focus on research, students are prepared for work in academia or similar research institutions. At the beginning of the second year, we strongly recommend to spend a semester abroad, e.g. at the State University of New York (SUNY), which is an integral part of the academic curriculum.
