About Programme

TESOL with Applied Linguistics will enable you to develop the solid foundation of knowledge and the practical skills you need to teach English to non-native speakers of the language.

This postgraduate degree course will equip you with a thorough grounding in teaching methodology, classroom management, an in-depth knowledge of lexis, grammar and phonology, and the way in which language is learned. It will also help you to develop the analytical and reflective skills you need to continue to develop as a professional.

Careers

We currently have graduates working in ELT positions in a variety of countries, including the UK, Japan, Malaysia, China, Thailand and Saudi Arabia. We have a well-established network of alumni and are able to put students in contact with graduates around the world. We also regularly offer work opportunities within the UCLan Language Academy or at partner institutions.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a lower second-class honours degree is usually required. Applicants should be able to demonstrate appropriate teaching experience in language education (typically at least 1-2 years) and/or a pre-service certificate (Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert. TESOL or equivalent). Non-native English speakers will require an English level of IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent), with a minimum of 6.0 in all sub-scores.
